Hi guys, I am new to the forum, but have tried to see if there were previous posts about this subject...

I have just bought a 1985 318i, bodywork and interior are pretty good for the age of the car, but the engine is getting toward the end of its life (280K). I am looking to get a second hand replacement engine that has considerably fewer clicks on the clock. Just wondering are there any new variant engines that are any easy retrofit to this older car. I am looking for the least cutting and shutting as possible??

Getting the engine to fit can sometimes be the easiest part... Getting it to talk to the ECU can be the hard part.

I'm on expert at all, but first I'd check what engines your current ECU can talk to, that will give you some indication of if it's possible (if that makes sense).

I can see that it was valid for 1984 and 1985, so that's a start at least..
