New images have emerged of the upcoming 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible.Published by China's National Intellectual Property Administration – and revealed through Autoblog – the rendered design drawings suggest BMW is planning to replace the current generation retractable metal roof with a more traditional (and lighter) soft top.Earlier this year a prototype of the model was spied testing at the Nürburgring. The vehicle, which is built on BMW's CLAR platform, bears the same polarising grille seen on the recently-launched 4 Series Coupe.Assuming it also carries across the coupe’s engine range, the droptop will be offered with three different powertrains in Australia. At the entry level there is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines for the 420i and 430i, delivering 135kW and 300Nm, and 190kW and 400Nm, respectively. The 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder M440i xDrive tops the range, developing 285kW and 500Nm.All three powertrains are paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe is priced from $70,900 plus on road costs, and customers can expect the convertible variant to start at around $90,000 for the entry-level 420i.MORE: BMW 4 SeriesMORE: Convertibles
