The 2020 BMW 4 Series Convertible has been snapped wearing less disguise. revealing more details about its much-talked-about front end.Although BMW has gone to the effort of creating a fake set of kidney grilles and a trio of low-set air intakes in the camouflage, but looking through the ruse reveals there's a bit more going on.As with the Concept 4 revealed at the Frankfurt motor show, the production 4 Series looks likely to wear a set of tall, slim kidney grilles paying homage to the legendary 328 and 3.0 CSi.This appears to confirm what we've already seen from the BMW factory floor. A leak from earlier this year showed a car with the controversial nose on a production car.Of course, there's more to a car than the grille. The 4 Series will be built on the same CLAR underpinnings as the current 3 Series, which should make it lighter than the car it replaces, with significantly more technology in the cabin.Based on these spy photos, and those we've previously seen, there will be more to visually differentiate this 4 Series from the four-door 3er on which it's based than we saw in the current car.The taillights borrow their light signature from the 8 Series, and the headlamps appear slimmer than those of the 3 Series.Unlike its hard-topped predecessor, the new drop-top 4er will have a folding soft top. Not only should that save weight, it should help free up boot space.A range of four- and six-cylinder engines will be offered, along with rear- and all-wheel drive. The two-door models will likely be joined by a five-door Gran Coupe, too.BMW hasn't locked in a launch date for the new 4 Series, but given the fact it's wearing production lights, wheels and trimmings here, we'd suggest it's not far off potentially at the Geneva motor show in March.MORE: BMW 4 Series news, reviews, comparisons and videosMORE: Everything BMW
