Post BMW M5 Competition: Victoria Police reveals Highway Patrol car

BMW Australia and Victoria Policehave revealed the latest addition to the Highway Patrol fleet – an M5 Competition. The German super sedan has been equipped to be a fully operational police vehicle, joining the current crop of 530d sedans that were first deployed in 2018.“Now with the incredible BMW M5 Competition entering Victoria Police service, the performance level has jumped up the scale,” said Vikram Pawah, CEO for BMW Group Australia.“When combined with the safety of the xDrive four-wheel drive system, the M5’s all-round ability aspects makes it a natural fit for dynamic police duties.”“Since co-operating in the deployment of BMW 5 Series patrol vehicles in 2018, BMW Group Australia has enjoyed working closely with Victoria Police. With our Condition-Based Servicing model, these vehicles offer strong lifecycle value for Victoria Police,” he added.Power in the M5 Competition comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 developing 460kW of power and 750Nm of torque, sent to a rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed sports automatic transmission. The Bavarian marque claims a 3.3-second sprint from 0-100km/h, and a top speed of 305km/h when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package – the “highest capacity” of any operational police vehicle in Victoria. If you’re wondering whether Vic Police paid the $229,900 sticker price of the M5 Competition, the vehicle is on loan to the state’s authorities for 12 months, so it won’t cost taxpayers a cent. The reveal comes nearly three months after the M5 Competition was first delivered to Victoria Police, reported by CarAdvice at the end of April.Click the images for the full gallery, and let us know your thoughts in the comments!MORE: BMW M5 news, reviews, comparisons and videosMORE: Everything BMW
